內容簡介: Colonial powers in China and northern Vietnam employed the built environment for many purposes: as an expression of imperial aspirations, a manifestation of supremacy, a mission to civilize, a re-creation of a home away from home, or simply as a place to live and work. In this volume, scholars of city planning, architecture, and Asian and imperial history provide a etailed analysis of how colonization worked on different levels, and how it was expressed in stone, iron, and concrete. The process of creating the colonial built environment was ultilayered and unpredictable. This book uncovers the regional diversity of the colonial built form found from Harbin to Hanoi, varied experiences of the foreign powers in Asia, flexible interactions between the colonizers and the colonized, and the risks entailed in building and living in these colonies and treaty ports.
博客來作者簡介博客來書店Laura Victoir is a former postdoctoral fellow in European Studies at the University of Hong Kong. She curr博客來網路書局ently teaches in the History Department at Hunter College, City University of New York, specializing in Imperial Russia and in French colonialism in Asia.博客來網路書店Victor Zatsepine is a research assistant professor of history at the University of Hong Kong. He holds degrees from Beijing Language and Culture University, Harvard and the University of British Columbia, and specializes in China’s frontier history and the history of Sino-Russian encounters.

張榮味丟「政」撼彈 張嘉郡「退選不退黨」
前雲林縣長張榮味，10日下午突然在臉書宣佈，要女兒張嘉郡退出2016立委選舉，消息一出，張嘉郡也在臉書回應，因為這段時間看到爸爸情義難兩全而煎熬，自己也很不捨，證實了退選消息。外界推測，由於張榮味跟宋楚瑜交情好，宋楚瑜宣佈參選時，他曾私下說過總統大選不挺宋要挺誰，但礙於女兒是國民黨立委身份，因此讓女兒退選不退黨。
前雲林縣長張榮味在臉書貼出私人訊息，表示對所有關心我的朋友慎重道歉，政治並非人生唯一選項，他在無奈與痛苦中做出決定，讓張嘉郡退出2016立委選舉。立委張嘉郡：「啊，歹勢、歹勢。」
消息傳出時，張嘉郡人正在堪災，一個不小心將整隻腳就陷進淹水的農田裡，一不做二不休，乾脆捲起褲管、陪著踩進去，展現親民作風。立委張嘉郡：「哈哈哈，對啦，這才是親民服務。就是這個啦，你看。」
對於父親張榮味幫她宣佈退選，張嘉郡也立刻在臉書回應，自己愛雲林這片土地跟朋友，會把立委工作做到圓滿，接下來會用公民的角度繼續關心家鄉，這段時間看到爸爸因為情義難兩全而煎熬，他自己也很不捨。立委張嘉郡：「我看我父親就是情義難兩全的、煎熬跟痛苦，大家都有父母親，希望大家也可以體諒我做女兒的心情。」
為什麼爸爸煎熬，張嘉郡沒多做說明。但外界推測宋楚瑜宣佈參選2016總統大選，張榮味跟他原本就有好交情，旗下的農漁水利會等5大系統立刻開始動員準備挺宋，但礙於女兒是國民黨立委身份，也讓張嘉郡卡在家人跟黨團之間，或許就是這個原因，張家人才會宣佈張嘉郡退選不退黨，兩面不得罪、誰也不欠誰。
